In this category you will find our blog posts related to our sailboat renovation, all posts except the engine renovation. We are renovating our sailboat Anne-Mon so that we can cross oceans with her. When we bought the sailboat she had been abandoned for 10 years and there are a lot of work to get her in a good condition. We do all work ourselves and hopefully this will inspire someone that it is not impossible to restore a sailboat and be able to sail around the world with an older sailboat. Weekend work
Another weekend has passed filled with boatwork, and we got a bunch of different stuff done. First on the agenda for the weekend was to prepare a cover for the winter. This year we will cover the entire boat since we still have some leakages in the deck. We want as little water inside the hull as possible so that it doesn’t freeze and crack during winter. We also filled up the holding tank with water to test leakages, better to do leakage test with sea water instead of black water. 😉 We let it be overnight and no leakages were found! Holding tank installation
When our new tank had arrived it was time to start with the holding tank installation. In the previous post about our holding tank we mentioned that the water tank we planned on converting to a holding tank leaked in the old weldings, not something you want for a holding tank. So instead we abandoned the water tank and bought a plastic septic tank instead. The reason for choosing a plastic tank was because of the price and because there are no welding that will leak. Varnishing companionway and cleaning
When we fixed the companionway before summer (read more about it HERE) we didn’t have time to finish completely. What was left to do was to varnish it and some adjustments in the frame, which had gotten loose during summer. We had glued it before summer but the glue wasn’t strong enough, so we added screws on the frame to make it hold better. Another thing we have been working a lot with lately is removing styrofoam in the boat. Cleaning the bilge and new holding tank plans
After we took out the water tank that would be our holding tank, some cleaning of the bilge underneath the tank was needed since it wasn’t exactly clean. We had cleaned the bilge under the engine when we took the engine out last year, but not the part of the bilge in front of the engine. Holding tank – part one
After we sailed back to the city the first thing we did was to clean the boat up, taking down the sails, remove all the fabric inside etc. After that was done we started our first major project for the autumn, making a holding tank. As mentioned earlier we have read that in most countries there is no regulations towards holding tanks, but in Sweden (and some other european countries as well) it is if the boat has a toilet, so we will need a holding tank.
