It is boat tour time 😃 We just uploaded a vid It is boat tour time 😃 We just uploaded a video where we take you on a tour around our new boat ⛵️ so if you are interested in seeing how it looks like inside you can find link in our bio or search for sailingannemon on YouTube 😃⛵️ We filmed this shortly after buying the boat so stuff everywhere 😅 quite a mess! New boat means a lot of things to go over, hatches New boat means a lot of things to go over, hatches to open and systems to understand 😃🛠️⛵️ One thing on the list to go over and understand is the hydraulic systems. There are two systems on the boat. One system with a manual pump that operates the hydraulic tensioners of the back stay, inner fore stay and cutter stay and the kick rod. 😊 The other system has a 12V hydraulic unit and that system are powering two winches in the cockpit, the windlass and the lifting keel. In the picture Thomas is looking at hydraulic unit which is located in the aft hatch 😊 good thing with a big boat, most things are easier to access and work with 😅 no boat yoga needed🤸‍♂️ The existing batteries are old and doesn’t have any power left, so we had a battery with us to try out the system. But that battery is also an old one so not much power there either 😅 and there were quite a lot of corrosion on cables causing voltage drop… But we did manage to run the winches with no load 😃 so cool!! We tried the other functions as well but the voltage at the hydraulic pump dropped too much for it to start😊 new cables and a new battery should solve that. What really want to try is the lifting keel as we haven’t really decided what to do with the keel. Some more pictures of our new sailboat ⛵️😃 Some more pictures of our new sailboat ⛵️😃 We’ve been spending time at our new boat, trying to figure out what needs to be done. It had been standing for 10+ years so definitely some work to be done. 🛠️ We are making plans for the renovations/upgrades we need to do going forward. Also making sure the boat is secured and covered for the upcoming winter months ❄️ On todays agenda was to: - put up a new tarp to cover some leakages from deck - start the engine (which started at first run 😃) - Start the hydraulic system (which also started but is in need of some service) - and also started cleaning, organizing and throwing away some old stuff 😊😊 so we could get some good photos 😅 and yes, we chose to show the best sides of the boat now 😅😅 it is still a lot of messy things in the boat and work to do, that’s not shown right now but be prepared for some more renovation pictures in the future 🛠️ Hopefully we’ll be able to post a short boat tour video shortly 😊😊 #sailboat#sailing#sailinglife#sailboatrefit#bluewatersailing#sailingcouple
WE’VE BOUGHT A NEW SAILBOAT!!! 😃⛵️ We ar WE’VE BOUGHT A NEW SAILBOAT!!! 😃⛵️ We are now the proud owners of this Wasa 530 😃 a 53ft sailboat built in Sweden in the early 90s. ⛵️ She has been standing for quite some time and is in need of some renovations 🛠️ We are soooo excited and we think this will be the perfect boat for us to renovate and upgrade for upcoming adventures 😃😃 So be prepared for some more updates here going forward ⛵️⛵️ #sailing#sailboat#sailinglife#bluewatersailing#sailingadventure#saillife
Our Atlantic crossing ⛵️ crazy that is more th Our Atlantic crossing ⛵️ crazy that is more than 2 years ago that we spotted the lush Caribbean islands for the first time - after 18 days at sea 🌊 😃🌴 Our regular life back home is not as interesting as our sailing lite was, but we wanted to do a little check-in post until we have a new sailboat in the loop⛵️ we will share more about our plans ahead and so on 😃 and also about our boat buying process, but right now things are standing quite still 😊 We are slowly waiting for spring and summer to arrive. Caribbean memories☀️🐠🌴🌎 - - It has be Caribbean memories☀️🐠🌴🌎 - - It has been a while since we posted something here so time to check in 😃 we’ve been back home now for more than a year and adapted to normal life again 😊 But, we do miss the sailing life; the simple lifestyle, the sea, tropical adventures… So we have slowly started fantasizing/making a draft plan about our next sailing adventure ⛵️⛵️ We have started glancing through different sailboat marketplaces to look for Anne-Mon II, and looking at different kinds of sailboats to get a feeling of what we want 😊We’re not in a super rush buying anything right now, but doesn’t hurt to have a look, right? 😏⛵️🙈 maybe the perfect boat shows up… Any favorite marketplace for sailboats we shouldn’t miss? Mainly European market? 😃 - And ofc, we will update here about whatever happens, share some about our boat searching and maybe some small updates from our everyday life 😃⛵️
One year of sailing in thirty seconds ⛵️🌎 One year of sailing in thirty seconds ⛵️🌎 We left Sweden in the summer 2020 with our first sailboat Anne-Mon, an OC35. We had bought her as a renovation project and spent soooo many hours preparing her for our sailing adventure. This renovation included a full on engine restoration for example 🛠️🛠️ all that work can be found on our website 😊😊 We managed to get the boat ready and started sailing south, across the Atlantic and had some amazing months in the Caribbean 🌴 before we returned to Europe and Sweden one year later 🇸🇪 We sold the sailboat and prepared for land life. But it wasn’t long after our return that we started longing for another sailing adventure… (the cold and dark winter months didn’t help 😅❄️) and we started the search for a new sailboat ⛵️ In October we finally found our Anne-Mon II, a Wasa 530. Another renovation project but a boat with so much potential ⛵️🛠️ We are so exited to have another boat again and another adventure to look forward to 🗺️😃😃
Sailing through Scotland on the Caledonia Canal 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ⛵️😃 New video is up from when we sailed to Scotland and then through the Caledonia Canal, where we enjoyed some really stunning views 😃 we spent two and a half day on the Caledonia canal; passed through 29 locks on the way and sailed over Loch Ness before we reached the North Sea 😊 link to the video can be found in our bio 😃⛵️

Dominica memories 🐒🌴🇩🇲😃 Such a cool Dominica memories 🐒🌴🇩🇲😃 Such a cool island with amazing nature and Caribbean vibes 😃 don’t sail past this island if you are interested in some jungle hikes, natural hot springs, volcanic landscape, waterfalls and more ⛵️we stayed at Dominica for nearly 4 weeks last year and we really liked the island 😊
Atlantic crossing ⛵️part 3 is now uploaded 😃 We have some tiresome days when the autopilot decides to break and the windvane is not working as well as we would like in light winds. We have no or very little wind, which means a lot of hand steering in both sunny weather and pouring rain for a couple of days ☀️ 🌧 being just the two of us, taking turns handsteering is tiring 😴 we were really glad when the wind picked up again and we didn’t have to hand steer so much anymore! Caribbean memories 🌴☀️⛵️ from beautiful Caribbean memories 🌴☀️⛵️ from beautiful Tobago Cays in St Vincent & the Grenadines 😃 We really miss the warmth, the white beaches, turquoise waters and palm trees right now, being in cold and dark Sweden right now! When we sailed in the in total we spent 9 nights here in January earlier this year and a few of those nights there was only us and maybe 4-5 other boats in this huge anchorage protected from the Atlantic ocean swell by the Horseshoe Reef. We haven’t seen the Caribbean a “normal” year, but as we understood it Tobago Cays, for example, is usually very crowded with a lot of different kinds of boats, people from charter boats and cruise ships visiting the national park. It was very nice to have the opportunity to visit this place a year like 2021 and see this beautiful place without all the hordes of tourists 😊😊
Our Atlantic Crossing ⛵️ from Caribbean to the Our Atlantic Crossing ⛵️ from Caribbean to the Azores part 2 is now up 😃 in this part of the crossing we are followed by a sea bird, hoist the spinnaker, get a tuna delivery and we run in to some problems. The halyard to the Genoa snapped in the middle of the night and we also lost the steering! Some more footage from this ridiculous calm day we Some more footage from this ridiculous calm day we experienced in the middle of the ocean on our Atlantic crossing back to Europe earlier this year! 😃 These pictures are taken in the Sargasso Sea, a sea in the western part of Atlantic Ocean. The sea has no strict borders, it is bounded by four Atlantic currents and due to this the Sargasso Sea is actually just a big mass of water slowly rotating in a clockwise direction 😊 the water in the Sargasso Sea is incredible clear with a deep blue color. The visibly is said to be up to 60 meters! And that is what we got to experience this particular day!😃 we put on our snorkels and watch the deep, deep blue ocean! Amazing! The Sargasso Sea is also known for being the sea where eels migrate to and we actually think we saw an eel around the boat one day on the crossing, what we saw had a very special movement so we are pretty sure it was an eel 😊😊 If you haven’t already seen the episode from our first part of the Atlantic crossing to the Azores, make sure to watch it! This part is ocean crossing at its finest, and stay tuned for next part, which we will post next weekend 😊 in the second part of our crossing the Genoa halyard snapped and another day we suddenly lost the ability to steer the boat… ⛵️
Our Atlantic Crossing ⛵️from the Caribbean to Our Atlantic Crossing ⛵️from the Caribbean to the Azores - Part One is now up on YouTube 😃⛵️on the first part of the crossing we had sunny weather and both good winds and no wind ☀️this is ocean crossing at its finest! And btw, how crazy is the sun rays trying to reach the bottom? 😃 On the day we filmed the sun rays it was dead calm, sunny and at this location it was 7000 meters deep!! 🦈 😱 crazy cool and hypnotizing experience to snorkel around the boat that day just looking at all the water below 😃, a bit scary to imagine what’s down there, though! And worst would be to notice a huge shadow when looking at the footage afterwards 😱 (luckily no such thing in any of the ocean-underwater-footage we have from this crossing 😊) Anyhow, this was the nice and easy, first part of our Atlantic crossing 😊 link to full episode can be found in our profile, or search for Sailing Anne-Mon on YouTube 😊the rest of the Atlantic crossing was a bit tougher than this first week, so if you want a bit more drama, stay tuned for next episode 😊⛵️
Thinking back on it, it feels kind of surreal that Thinking back on it, it feels kind of surreal that we have sailed across the ocean on small sailboat not one, but two times 🌊 having been back to normal life again for some time now it almost feels like waking up from a long dream. Sometimes it feels like we just followed some other people doing it😆 but also so grateful that we did take this year off to do this crazy thing!😃😃 Anyone else being back to your normal life at home feel the same way? 😊 It is somewhat crazy to think that we spent 18 days on the crossing to the Caribbean and then 26 days on the crossing back to Europe isolated on the ocean. It is quite a long time, just think what you have done last 3-4 weeks? 🤔 And during that time, very limited contact with the outside world; no social media, no phone calls, no news, no messages, only short emails to our closest and weather updates 🌧 ☀️ And not to forget the seasickness 🤢sleep deprivation 😴(as we were just the two of us), the boat constantly rolling 🌊 and boredom! But even with all these things what an experience it was! 😃All sea life we have seen 🐋 🐬, having constant supply of fresh fish (at least on the crossing to the Caribbean 🐠🐟), seeing the ocean at so different shapes (everything from dead calm to stormy), taking a swim at crazy deep water 🏊‍♀️, watching the night sky 🌌 (never seen the Milky Way as bright as on a night in the middle of the ocean and can also conclude that shooting stars are really not that uncommon, a lot of wishes 💫) and finally the thrill of seeing land again knowing you sailed there yourself, such an amazing feeling!😃 The pictures above are from our Atlantic crossing we did last year, this year we spend December in Sweden ⛵️⛵️ And since it is “Atlantic Crossing season” we wish everyone about to start the crossing the best of luck! 😃 Next Saturday we will post the first episode of our Atlantic crossing back to Europe, which was a bit more dramatic than our crossing to the Caribbean 🌴 if you want to watch the videos from our Atlantic Crossing to the Caribbean go to the link in or bio or search for Sailing Anne-Mon on YouTube 🙂🙃🙂
Thinking back on our one year of sailing this is f Thinking back on our one year of sailing this is for sure the coolest animal encounter we had on the trip 😃 The story goes: it was on our sail from Canary Islands to the Cape Verde last year. We were sailing quite fast for being us and had just caught a fish (a skipjack tuna), bleed it and cleaned it. We threw the waste overboard and suddenly noticed a huge shadow just underneath us! The shadow disappeared and we saw a bright blue fin surfing in the waves behind us. It swam in under us and out again over and over again. After a few tries filming it underwater we realized it was a Black(?) Marlin! 🐟 we estimate it was between 3-4 meters long! The fish surfed in the waves behind us and swam underneath our cockpit (close to the surface). It stayed with us for about 4 hours and only left when the wind died out and we lost speed 😊 amazing experience seeing this animal! 😃 And sorry about all the bubbles in the video, we where sailing quite fast and didn’t manage to get the GoPro deep enough 😊 If you want to see a longer video about when we noticed the fish you can go to our YouTube channel (link in our bio) and watch episode 9 😃🐟⛵️
