Sailboat renovation
In this category you will find our blog posts related to our sailboat renovation, all posts except the engine renovation. We are renovating our sailboat Anne-Mon so that we can cross oceans with her. When we bought the sailboat she had been abandoned for 10 years and there are a lot of work to get her in a good condition. We do all work ourselves and hopefully this will inspire someone that it is not impossible to restore a sailboat and be able to sail around the world with an older sailboat. We have also done a complete renovation of our engine, a Volvo Penta MD19, and all posts related to the engine renovation can be found under the category Engine. Mahogany progress
This weekend most of the time has been spent preparing for and setting up mahogany strips. We have started to set up mahogany as well, but forgot to take a picture of that so it will have to wait a while. We have also worked a bit with our gearbox. It has been leaking so we took it out and bought new sealings for it and did a more thorough job than we did before (when we had the engine out and did a renovation of it). When we have put it back and try it again it will hopefully not leak and we won’t get oil in the bilge.…

DIY autopilot for sailboat – Part one
Instead of buying a complete autopilot our plan is to do a DIY autopilot for our sailboat. The reason is to save money and also because it is a bit fun. Both of us has pretty good knowledge about the general theory for autopilots, control theory which we both has read a course in university about. Thomas has also studied, and currently works with electronics design and Petra is a software developer. So, we both have some background knowledge about this stuff. But if you are interested in learning about this stuff and to spend time on it, it should be possible even without education, the internet is full of…

First mahogany lists in position
It’s been a couple of days since our last update here, but we blame Christmas holidays for that. We have spent some time working on the boat as well but also taking some time off to spend with our families. One thing we have done during Christmas is to set up the first mahogany lists in the guest cabin. We painted the vertical plywood strips black in case of gaps between the mahogany lists. The black material behind the mahogany is an insulation material called Armaflex, which we use both as a support for the lists and extra insulation. We also moved the boat to a protected winter harbor for…

New inlet socket for 230V & leakages
In this blog post we will share some of our work from last weekend; continuing with our 230V system and also uncovering more leakages on our sailboat as we remove more styrofoam. Since there was no rain for a couple of hours this weekend we managed to do some outside work, which was to add a new, fine inlet socket for the 230V system. The connection towards land was earlier just a hole into one of lockers in the cockpit. The hole was on the outside of the cockpit which didn’t we thought didn’t feel so safe. So we took a piece of teak and made it look nice and…

Prepping for mahogany strips
As we mentioned we are working on the interior in the boat and to make it look nice. We will set up mahogany strips on the hull, but before that we have some more prepping work to do. The inside of the hull has been covered with a lot of styrofoam, which we have started to removed and clean the hull behind it. The styrofoam is removed in most of the places, but not all of them. We take it step by step. After cleaning we have started to set up vertical wood strips that we will fasten the mahogany strips on. Since the hull is exactly straight we used…
