  • Kiel canal transit

September 18-20, 2020 We left Vejrø Friday afternoon, September 18th and did a night sail to Kiel (or we mostly went by engine) so we could transit the canal. It was our first night sail, and a good first night. Calm weather and clear skies. As it was our first night we both where up most of the night, with some shorter naps. We arrived to the entrance to the canal in the morning (around 9-10) and ate breakfast and drank coffee while drifting around in the waiting area outside the locks together with the other sailboats. We waited for a pretty long time, the reason seemed to be some…

  • Stuck at Vejrø with a broken engine

September 10-18, 2020 While we waited for the engine parts we spent our days fixing other stuff on our boat and also explored the island we were stuck at. There where bikes that was free to use so we took advantage of that and took a tour around the island. As we bought a bunch of food before our departure from Stockholm we had plenty of food to eat during our stay (no food store on the island, only able to buy small stuff). We also got a lot of help from the people working on the island, they lent us some tools we didn’t bring along and we got…

  • Engine problems at Vejrø

September 7-10, 2020 We spent one night in Gislövs läge before our departure out of Sweden, towards Denmark. On Monday morning,  September 7th, we left the marina. Strong westerly winds were approaching the night towards Tuesday so instead of going around Denmark towards Kiel we chose to go between the islands Falster and Sjælland to take cover from these winds. How we sailed and at which dates and some small notes can be found under Our route. We set sail right after we left Gislövs läge and kept the sails up for some time until we reached a wind turbines park that was not on our charts (and our charts are…

  • Skåne, last outpost in Sweden

September 3-7, 2020 As there wasn’t very much to do in Kristianopel this time of the year we got to bed early and started our sail towards Skåne (the most southern part of Sweden). We headed for the town Simrishamn, an 80 nm sail. We started the day with some sailing but it was mostly closed haul sailing, which is not Anne-Mon’s favorite, it is hard to maintain speed while having a high point. Our boat is more of a beam-reach boat. But we pushed on for a couple of hours and when the wind died we started the engine. At that point it was completely calm, but shortly after…

  • Exploring Öland

August 30-September 3, 2020 After our bad night in Harstena we got up early on Sunday morning, August 30th, to head for the island Öland. The sea was still quite rolly after last nights strong winds and we both felt a little bit of seasickness (no throwing up, though). We started sailing but after a while the wind died, but the waves did not so we started the engine and headed for the north part of Öland. We arrived late in the evening and met up with Petra’s parents who had come to visit us there. We ate dinner at one restaurant that was still open. This is probably a…
