Cost for Volvo Penta renovation
It is about time to share the cost for our Volvo Penta MD 19 renovation. As said earlier we have done most of the work ourselves and spent some time finding cheap spare parts on the internet. If you want to know more about where we found all the spare parts, click HERE. Pistons/Piston Rings/liners Ordered from internet to what we think was a reasonable price. The main issue here was that it was hard to find the correct liners. Cylinder head We outsourced the service of the cylinder head since we didn’t have the correct tools and this is the price we had to pay for that job. Engine…

Before and After – Volvo Penta Renovation
It is time to share a bunch of before and after pictures of our Volvo Penta renovation! We have been working with renovating the engine during the winter and it is so satisfying to see these pictures after many hours hard work. We lifted out the engine from the boat October 21, 2018 and since then we have been working with the renovation on evenings and weekends until now, March 16, 2019, five months later we feel that we are completely finished with the renovation. We have been keeping track on the hours spent working on the engine and have estimated it to be around 200 hours active work. It…

Generator renovation
In parallel of working with the engine, we also renovated the generator for our sailboat. The generator we have is a Zeise Liliput Multi Power. Our main focus during the winter was the engine and we just wanted to do what was necessary with the generator. As everything else on the boat, the generator had been abandoned for ten years. We suspected from the start that the heat exchanger would be quite dirty, so we removed the heat exchanger to clean it. There were no problems running the generator, so there is not much that we need to do. But what we will do is: Changing the fuel hoses Changing…

Fuel tank renovation
When we were working with cleaning the bilge one day we accidentally hit one of the connections to the fuel tanks and broke it. It started pouring diesel into the bilge and we did a temporary fix. But this was something that we definitely needed to do a proper fix for. Since we had broken one of the connections in the fuel tanks we had decided to remove all the other connections so that we could change them. When we were removing the remaining connections we managed to break 3/5 of them. It was a really good decision to change them! And it was also a good thing it broke now…

Gearbox renovation and crankcase ventilation solution
In this blog post we will show our gearbox renovation and crankcase ventilation solution. For the crankcase ventilation solution we finally decided that we will pass the blow-by gases to the intake via the valve cover. Gearbox renovation We have a Volvo Penta RB gearbox, which we wanted to take apart to see that everything looked good, and change/repair what was necessary. We measured the wear on the gearbox. Everything was according to specification, so we will only change sealings and gaskets. One thing we noticed when taking it apart was that the old oil in the gearbox smelled like transmission oil, which is common to use for gearboxes, but…
