• Mast butt renovation

The weather is not on our side this spring, it way to cold an rainy for us to work with plastic repairs right now, so in the meantime we started prepare for rigging the masts. We have a keel-stepped main mast. As we understand it, it is very hard to get rid of all leakages in a keel-stepped mast but we will do everything we can to prevent leakages. A sign of old leakages is our rusty mast butt. We will get rid of the rust and paint it so that it can withstand potential future leakages better. Now the mast butt is ready to have the mast connected, which…

  • Before and After – Volvo Penta Renovation

It is time to share a bunch of before and after pictures of our Volvo Penta renovation! We have been working with renovating the engine during the winter and it is so satisfying to see these pictures after many hours hard work. We lifted out the engine from the boat October 21, 2018 and since then we have been working with the renovation on evenings and weekends until now, March 16, 2019, five months later we feel that we are completely finished with the renovation. We have been keeping track on the hours spent working on the engine and have estimated it to be around 200 hours active work. It…

  • Generator renovation

In parallel of working with the engine, we also renovated the generator for our sailboat. The generator we have is a Zeise Liliput Multi Power. Our main focus during the winter was the engine and we just wanted to do what was necessary with the generator. As everything else on the boat, the generator had been abandoned for ten years. We suspected from the start that the heat exchanger would be quite dirty, so we removed the heat exchanger to clean it. There were no problems running the generator, so there is not much that we need to do. But what we will do is: Changing the fuel hoses Changing…

  • Gearbox renovation and crankcase ventilation solution

In this blog post we will show our gearbox renovation and crankcase ventilation solution. For the crankcase ventilation solution we finally decided that we will pass the blow-by gases to the intake via the valve cover. Gearbox renovation We have a Volvo Penta RB gearbox, which we wanted to take apart to see that everything looked good, and change/repair what was necessary. We measured the wear on the gearbox. Everything was according to specification, so we will only change sealings and gaskets. One thing we noticed when taking it apart was that the old oil in the gearbox smelled like transmission oil, which is common to use for gearboxes, but…
