• Continuing with the plastic repairs

On Saturday the sun was shining and we were finally able to continue with the plastic repairs. As mentioned earlier, we had removed the window we had in the cockpit since it was leaking a lot (read more about it HERE). Now it was time to seal and reinforce this area with fiberglass and polyester. We started with the plastic repair late summer last year, if you want to read more about our previous plastic work, check the tag Plastic repair. We have chosen to use polyester for the plastic repairs in the cockpit, the reasons why we choose polyester over epoxy are: The price, polyester is cheaper than epoxy…

  • Sliding hatch renovation

It was time for some sliding hatch renovation. Our sliding hatch was broken in some places and was also leaking a lot through the window. We do not want any leakages at all and there have been a lot of water coming in to the boat through this hatch and it is something we really want to fix before the summer season. After adding the linseed-oil we left the hatch alone for fourteen days. We did this so that the oil will harden completely. Now it has gone more than fourteen days since we did the oil treatment and we will start varnishing the wood and figure out how to…

  • Removing leaking window in cockpit

We recently fixed a leaking porthole we had in the cockpit, but that was not the only leakage we had in the cockpit. There is a also a window on the deck in the cockpit which has been leaking a lot. It is just a plexiglass sealed with marine sealing. Since most sealing materials doesn’t stick pretty well on plexiglass we will remove this window completely. For a while we had an idea of having a proper deck hatch, but they are expensive and our cockpit is pretty small so the hatch might make it feel smaller. We also have an idea of having a table in the cockpit and…

  • Alternator charges with too high voltage

Sunday also meant boat work and it was time to move Anne-Mon from the winter location to our ship. During the summer we will have a spot in a marina further out in the archipelago, but that is pretty far away so it is perfect to have her next to the ship for a while. Since we have connected the service batteries we also wanted to test the alternator on the engine. We haven’t done this before and during our engine renovation we didn’t do any work with the alternator, we had just hoped that it would work. We magnetized the alternator by applying 12V to the D+ pin with…

  • Electrical installation for the engine

Weekend and Saturday meant working with the boat, and most of the day we worked with the electrical installation for the engine. Our goal with the electrical system overhaul right now is to get the electrics around the engine to work. The rest of the system will we go over thoroughly later on. We also worked a little bit with preparing the cockpit. Hopefully it will get warmer soon and we will be able to continue with the plastic repairs. Next up will be to continue with the electrical system and move the boat from its winter location. If you are interested in reading more about our electrical systems all…
